APEX, N.C. – Fuentek president Laura A. Schoppe and senior consultant Jack Spain presented a hands-on distance learning event for tech transfer organizations titled "Best Practices for Marketing University and Federal Lab Technology" on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Schoppe and Spain offered perspectives on technology transfer marketing challenges and detailed strategies and takeaways, which can be used to create a consistent message with tangible results. This 90-minute audioconference was designed to help attendees integrate critical marketing tasks into every workday and dramatically increase the number of technologies they successfully license and ultimately bring to the public.

Schoppe and Spain discussed topics such as:

  • Technology screening methodology: using a proactive filtering process to identify IP with the highest marketing potential
  • Best practices and guidelines for performing background research and creating and executing your marketing plan
  • Process improvement for marketing technologies: passive vs. active vs. reactive marketing
  • Case study examples of successful social media campaigns, blogging strategies, effective Web site layouts and search engine optimization strategies
  • Effective communication techniques with internal and external stakeholders

"Jack and I are excited to share our ideas on technology marketing,” said Schoppe. "Too many tech transfer organizations focus on patent protection and forget about marketing their innovations. This audioconference will demonstrate the value of a formal marketing plan to move technologies into the marketplace.”
