APEX, N.C. – Laura A. Schoppe, president of Fuentek, LLC, has announced that Steve Carnes has joined the firm as a technology transfer consultant.  In this position, Carnes screens and assesses various technology ventures.  After conducting necessary background research into these technologies, he performs market assessments and recommends whether the technologies should be commercialized.

Carnes has more than 25 years of diversified international engineering, operations, sales and marketing, and general management experience.  He spent 14 years working in aerospace, including three shuttle payloads for Sally Ride at the California Space Institute and NASA’s Johnson Space Center.  He has worked with three industrial robot manufacturers, ABB, Fanuc and Motoman, Philips Electronics in Europe, Motorola in Singapore, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Ryobi Corp. in Japan.  He has experience in multiple venture capital–backed startups, including Illinois Superconductor Corp (NASDAQ IPO) and private-equity turnaround situations, particularly in medical devices.

“Steve has experience in many different industries, along with expertise in the areas in which Fuentek specializes,” said Schoppe.  “By knowing the IP management industry backwards and forwards, Steve, like the rest of our consultants, can critically analyze every technology’s commercial potential.”
