Getting the Most Out of Social Media for Tech Transfer: White Paper, FLC Panel
We at Fuentek have blogged often about how social media’s tremendous reach can deliver real value to TTOs. We also have a webinar on lessons learned in using social media tools as part of a technology marketing effort. And as of today, we have yet another resource for tech transfer professionals. (Drum roll, please!)
We’ve released our white paper entitled, “Leveraging Social Media for Technology Transfer Marketing.” This free white paper gives in-depth advice about:
- Why social media works
- How to plan and implement an approach
- Where to look within your TTO for editorial support
- What are the top social media outlets that in our experience have great value
- How to exploit search engine optimization
- Why you should institutionalize social media into your marketing process
Whether your TTO is already blogging and tweeting or still evaluating the best way to leverage the benefits of Web-based communication tools, this comprehensive primer will help you plan and execute a comprehensive social media strategy. Packed with practical tips, the white paper offers experience-based recommendations for the effective use of several social media platforms, including as LinkedIn®, Twitter®, and Facebook®, in addition to advice for how to use blogs to spark online conversations and enhance your TTO’s online presence.
I’ll be talking about some of these strategies when I moderate the panel “Making Social Media a Reality: Insights from Implementers” at the upcoming annual meeting of the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer in Pittsburgh. Joining me on the May 1st panel will be Robert W. Bectel of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, Daniel Lockney of the Innovative Partnerships Office at NASA, and Matt Ringer of the Technology Commercialization Program at the DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
We’ll be discussing how federal labs can navigate structural logistics (such as strict communications rules) to tap into the power of social media. Panelists will share information about how effective, cost-efficient use of social media can help connect TTOs with licensing prospects and potential partners for specific opportunities.
Editor’s note: Check out Danielle’s later blog post about this FLC panel and the insights that panelists shared about their use of social media tools.
Of course, social media is just one tool to use in technology marketing. In fact, tech transfer pros should check out our webinar: Effective Technology Marketing: Getting to the Negotiating Table.
