Making Plans for This Spring’s Tech Transfer Meetings
First off we have the Licensing Executives Society (USA/Canada) winter meeting and the annual meeting of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM®)—both of which are taking place in Anaheim, CA the week of March 12th. LES is Monday through Wednesday, and AUTM’s meeting is Wednesday to Saturday.
This isn’t just serendipity. LES and AUTM coordinated these back-to-back meetings to improve access between universities and industry for tech transfer efforts. The overlapping Wednesday will be a joint program, featuring a session “Dirty Little Tricks People Play in License Negotiations,” a coffee break where LES and AUTM members can network, and a “mock trial” in which the litigants will debate the merits of a current controversy (TBD!) affecting tech transfer.
Fuentek will be participating in two panels at the AUTM meeting:
- Tailoring Your Website to Match Your Technology Transfer Office’s Goals
- Frequently Asked Questions about Intern Programs
Laura Schoppe also will be leading the Strategic Alliances special interest group session “Bringing Industry and Academia Together,” which will create a forum for university and industry members of AUTM can share their experiences, insights and ideas, including suggestions on how to improve communication between their organizations. I think it will prove to be an enthusiastic discussion!
A few weeks later, government TTOs will be gathering in Pittsburgh, PA for the national meeting of the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer, April 30th to May 3rd. We will be leading a panel called “Making Social Media a Reality: Insights from Implementers”—more on that later.
