Conferences: On Presence and Presentation

We have found that industry conferences and trade shows can be a great way to connect with potential partners and licensees. Not only are they a captive audience, but often they’ve chosen to come to the event because they are interested in talking about collaboration. Having a booth or other display is one way to create opportunities for those conversations.
If you choose to go that route, then the type of display or booth you bring should match your goals and the type of event. For example, for many events simple yet professional is the way we go. This is a booth we put together to market Kolon’s Colorless Polyimide technology at 2011FLEX. This type of booth made sense because we were marketing one technology to a fairly specific audience.
For MODSIM, however, NASA asked us to help create a much bigger presence so that the agency could connect with as many people as possible. So, our display was far more elaborate and included five distinct yet complementary displays. (Photos by NASA.)
And sometimes a display isn’t needed at all. When Fuentek’s Karen Hiser attended the Outdoor Retailer Show to market NASA’s Johnson Space Center’s High-Altitude Hydration System, she opted to go without a booth. The reason? She had a specific list of companies to target, and it was more efficient and effective for her to bring a portable demo of the technology to them rather than waiting for the target prospects to come to her.
